The Better Party was created in Missouri to provide reasonable ballot access for independent political candidates at all levels of government. The Party will make it easier for independent candidates in the state to get on the ballot. As a result, Missouri voters will have more options when selecting who will represent them in government.
The Better Party was formed by Jared Young, an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate in Missouri. As an independent candidate, Young would have had to jump these burdensome and costly hurdles for himself, but he has opted instead to fund and stand-up this innovative new party as a means not just for his own run for office, but also for generations to come.
Why would I want to support the Better Party?
Every voter in Missouri will benefit from the competition the Better Party’s independent candidates add to Missouri elections. Having more independent candidates on the ballot will force the Republicans and Democrats to listen to and represent a larger portion of the voter population. Otherwise, the major parties risk losing votes to the independent candidates. Supporting the creation of the Better Party will help give you candidates to choose from beyond the same old Republicans and Democrats.
Ballot Access
It is widely understood that there need to be changes in the process for electing our political representatives. Those in power from the two major parties are doing all they can to limit the options voters have. However, in addition to the Better Party, there are many organizations full of passionate people who are advocating for election reform.
Here are a few of those.
-
Center for Competitive Democracy
The Center for Competitive Democracy was founded in 2005 to strengthen American democracy by increasing electoral competition. CCD works to identify and eliminate barriers to political participation and to secure free, open and competitive elections by fostering active civic engagement in the political process.
-
Veterans for All Voters
Inspiring and educating one of America’s most-trusted institutions, veterans, to mobilize and advocate for election innovations that will help repair some of America’s least-trusted institutions (the political system and Congress).
-
American Promise
American Promise has a simple and powerful goal: passage of the For Our Freedom constitutional amendment to restore reasonable limits on money in our campaigns and elections.
-
National Association of Nonpartisan Reformers (NANR)
The National Association of Nonpartisan Reformers (NANR) is a member-led Association dedicated to structural election reforms in the public interest. We favor a robust competition of numerous political parties and independents, and a level playing field on which that can occur. What unites us is being pro-voter, not anti-party.
-
The Institute for Political Innovation
The Problem: The American politics industry is plagued by toxic levels of unhealthy competition. Many voters don’t like their choices and politicians aren’t incented to solve problems. The Solution: Create healthy competition by re-engineering our elections and legislative machinery. Voters will have better choices and politicians who solve problems will be more likely to keep their jobs.
